非宾格假说是许多语言中都具有的普遍现象。汉语中根据不及物动词不同质的特点，而将其分为非宾格动词和非作格动词。通过非宾格假说理论对不及物动词进行再分类之后，对很多用传统分类方法难以解释的语言现象进行了充分地阐释。对非宾格动词和非作格动词的深层句法结构及其特点进行了分析。
