The process of constructing an und erground tailings reservoir inJinling Irom Mine is described.Based on the analy sis of the tailings properties,half pressure bearing water theory was applied to calculate the thickness of the airtight walls and a drainage method was used to eliminate the effect of tailings water on the quality of surrounding water.Sinc e its operation in 1999,over 0.4 million t tailings have been discharged into th e mined area and the airtight walls have been in safe and there has been no wat er infiltration into the surrounding rock.
