1998年4月23日至29日深圳湾发生了较大规模的环节环沟藻赤潮,面积逾200km2,细胞密度高达3.8×106个/L。赤潮发生于大量降雨之后,高峰期水体盐度在20以下。在深圳河河口海域,虽然富营养化程度也较高,但由于悬浮物含量过高,浮游植物及环节环沟藻数量较少。赤潮期间,深圳湾没有发生死鱼现象,养殖牡蛎的大量死亡估计与赤潮无关。

There are no apparent records of Gyrodinium instriatum red tides in Chinese coast. During April 23 to April 29,1998, an intense bloom of Gyrodinium instriatum was observed in Shenzhen Bay, South China Sea, which covered 200 km2areas. The bloom occurred at wet season when the salinity dropped to less than 20. High cell concentrations between 10 510 6 cells/L were recorded at the cage area and the outer estuary. Although the nutrient contents were relatively higher in the inner estuary of the Gulf of Shenzhen River, phytoplankton biomass was normally low due to heavy suspension of sediments. High nutrient concentration and heavy rain induce the outbreak of the bloom. No fish kills were observed during the red tide, and the mortality of farmed oyster had no relative to the bloom.
