在翻译过程中,源语文本中所包含的源语文化因素往往造成许多障碍.这些障碍的产生有多方面的原因.译者在克服这些障碍并在译语中重建对等的语言与文化架构时不得不尝试各种手段以实现自己的目的.本文旨在探讨英汉互译过程中文化障碍的主要来源,分析归化与异化两种主要的克服文化障碍的翻译策略,剖析它们在作为缩小译文中英汉文化差距有效手段时的长处与不足.

When a source text is translated into a target language,the cultural elements that are embodied in the former often bring about many obstacles to the process. Such cultural barriers result from different sources and causes· In their efforts to overcome them and reconstruct the equivalence across both linguistic and cultural boundaries,translators usually have to try different ways for achieving their objectives.This paper is a tentative attempt to investigate the main origin of cultural barriers in translation between English and Chinese,explore domestication and foreignization,the two strategies for coping with them,and examine the merits and limitations the two strategies exhibit when they are adopted as effective means for bridging the cultural gap between English and Chinese.
