The absorption spectra and the typical molecular structures of the phthalocyanines, subphthalocyanines and superphthalocyanines are reviewed respectively. The relationships between the molecular structures and the maximum absorption wavelength of the phthalocyanines and subphthalocyanines derivatives are discussed. The structure characteristics of several expanded phthalocyanines and the reasons of their bad absorption properties are analyzed. The potential application fields of the phthalocyanines are introduced.
