With the development of economy, to build the urban railway transit has become the chief choice to improve urban traffic. However, it may lead to the environment noise pollution along the railway transit lines. More and more researchers have been investigating the noise characteristics of the urban railway transit for more than 50 years, made much achievement. The main progress about urban railway noise research is summarized in this paper, in which the theories and technologies related to the urban railway noise are studied. The classifying, characteristics and propagation of the noise from urban railway transit are analyzed. Some predicting and measuring techniques for the urban railway transit noise are introduced. The noise characteristics, accomplishment and short stage of these methods are analyzed and compared with each other. The research trend and technology development are also advanced, and material in this paper can considered as some reference for noise reduction in urban railway transit lines.
