Syphilis is an important sexually transmitted disease with behavioral and social roots. Besides clinical issues related to syphilis diagnosis and treatment,the main determinants of syphilis spread are biomedical factors, including individual behavioral modes, social perception, health education level, social environment, which even participate in the spread of syphilis. A deep insight into these determinants will help clinicians and public health workers to recognize syphilis and design appropriate strategies for its prevention and control.
