Appropriate reclamation scale can coordinate the relationship between reclamation and protection of marine environment and resources to the maximumextent. Taking Rudong shoal of radial sandy ridges area as a n example, an integrated study is made on various aspects of impact caused by re clamation including the dynamic sediment environment, marine ecological environment, comprehensive resource development, society and economy. By using t he multi-objective decision theory and methods, an assessment model of appropriate reclamation scale is set up. The reclamation projects of Rudong shoal are calculated, and an integrated decision is made by using the assessment model. It shows that +5m (front line of border dike) reclamation is the appropriate scale of Rudong shoal. The paper offers a beneficial attempt in methods to determine the appropriate reclamation scale. The appropriate scale of Rudong shoal that this paper determins can provide a reference for the development of Jiangsu tidal flat resources.
