History of marine electric propulsion and factors are reviewed Technical Architectures of the next generation integrated power system(NGIPS) are introduced The goal of NGIPS is reached in three steps; with current implementation of MVAC system, HFAC system in a near term as inter-solution, finally the goal of MVDC system in the future. The advantages and technical challenges with implementing MVDC system are presented.
