The paper briefly introduces the research field and conception of extension method which is a kind of scientific method and discusses how to transform contradiction. In order to alleviate the urban traffic contradiction, the paper constructs indexes system, proposes a matter-element and extension evaluative model on the basis of extenics. Take Kunming for example, the paper applies the model to the demonstration, which gets the grading of urban traffic sustainable development about Kunming and the trend. Demonstration shows that the method is effective and practical in the evaluation of urban traffic sustainable development
