Introduction: A new design of line code 9B10B which can be used for PON system is given. Compared with conventional scrambled techniques, simulation results have proven that this line code, which boasts outstanding DC-balanced characteristics such as maximum running length of 8 and DSV of 12, can be well satisfied with the requirements for burst mode receiving. In addition, this code has relatively higher bandwidth utilization rate than 8B10B code, thus it is more suited for high-speed Passive Optical Network (PON) system.
