Proteases play important roles in keeping cellular structure, adapting environmental change and maintaining cellular homeostasis. Protein component, construction features and intracellular function of Clp, Deg and FtsH proteases in cyanobacteria was reviewed in this paper. Relationships between Clp, Deg and FtsH proteases and repairing process of impaired photosystem reaction centers (PS Ⅰ and PS Ⅱ ) or degradation of D1 subunit were mainly discussed. This paper would provide useful data for further research on cyanobacterial proteases.
