Investigations on air staging combustion have been carried out using different coals and dif
ferent fineness with a one-dimensional furnace burning pulverized coal. The experimental results have
shown that air staging combustion has more remarkable effect in NOx reduction on high-volatile coal
and fine pulverized coal. For the same coal, the unburnt carbon in fly ash for the fine pulverized coal
is lower than that for the coarse one. Furthermore, the optimal primary air ratio λ for the different
coals was obtained under the air-staging combustion. Figs 9, tables 2 and refs 3.
