Theories of meaning are key issues of philosophy of language, especially of semantics. Among all the current semantic theories, referential theory and representational theory are of great importance to the development of semantics. This paper tempts to give an introduction to the development of the above two theories, and points out that both referential theory and representational theory contribute a lot to language teaching.
