The article expounded the concept and significance of the optimal allocation water resources system, and the important roles in sustainable water resources development and utilization. Based on the internal and external research advance about optimal allocation of water resources system, especially simulation model, the paper pointed out the importence of fully considering the social and ecological benefits, optimal allocation of water quantity and quality, application of 3S technology and new optimal method. There is the developing trend as establishing all-purpose model by computer technology and a reasonable evaluation system for the optimization of water resources.
