In view of the importance of in time detection and treatment of quality problems of pavement and roadbed and some key technical questions the advantages and basic working principle of ground penetrating radar are intriduced. Combined with practical work the application of ground penetrating radar in highway engineering is elaborated. Author points out that this technology is convenient, nondestructive and effective, which is worthy of being popularized.
