Twelve cases of Kasabach-Merritt syndrome were admitted to our hospital during 1970 to 1980 with a 2.28 percent of total hospitalized hemagioma patients in the same period. They consisted of eight males and four females with 18 days to 18 months of age, while len cases of them were younger than six months. Their platelet counts all were beneath sixty thousand on admission.Steroid therapy were used in twelve cases all as pathogenic treatment, in addition to small dosage local radiation in nine cases and heparinization therapy in six cases for abnormal coagulation.Eleven patients have been followed from eleven months to ten years with a result of nine cases healing and two cases diminished hemagioma. The discussion states, the clinical character of Kasabach-Merritt syndrome, makes an reference review in pathogenetic mechanism, and strengthens the important role of early pathogenic treatment as well as the correction of coagulation) moreover, the method and dosage of steroid, radiation and heparin are introduced. Surgical resection should only be adopted after strict and prudent consideration.
