龙岩闽南话由＂元音高化＂以及＂复元音单化＂构成拉链,链动起于高元音-u以擦化方式高化,紧接着ou〉u,同时-u也继续以舌尖化、裂化等方式持续高化,这牵引了o〉扪,因此使复元音ua〉o来填补系统空缺。前元音平行变化,高元音-i高化后,-e类韵母跟着高化,随后-藓类韵母也提高,元音位置决定了高化的次序。龙岩闽南话尚未出现与ua〉o平行的ai〉e,但很可能即将形成。
