After upgrading reconstruction and extension construction, the treatment capacity of a wastewater treatment plant was increased from 2.5×10~4 m~3/d to 5.0×10~4 m~3/d, and the effluent quality was improved from the first class B criteria to the first class A criteria. After the proposed measures, such as reconstructing the traditional A~2/O process into reversed A~2/O process, optimizing the process opera-tion condition, partial retrofitting and adding advanced wastewater treatment facilities were taken, the re-moval rates of BOD_5, SS, NH_3- N and TP were 95.0%, 96.2%, 82.1% and 90.4% respectively, and the up-to-standard discharge of the effluent was achieved. The content and measures applied during the upgrading reconstruction and extension construction are introduced, providing reference for other simi-lar projects.
