2-Isopropyl-2,3-dimethyl-butyric acid in total yield of 51% was synthesized by the reaction of diisopropyl ketone with Grignard reagent of bromomethane(MeMgBr) to obtain 2,3,4-trimethyl-3-pentanol, and then by Koch-Haaf carboxylation. The structure was confirmed by NMR, IR and GC-MS.
