在邓显鹤的诗文、交游以及他所整理的文献中，明显凝聚着三个情结：一、邓氏几乎耗尽了毕生的精力无偿整理湖湘文献．凝聚着邓氏深情的“故土情结”；二、邓氏对宋末、明末忠烈们的无比景仰而搜集、整理、刊刻其遗集并建祠立传，凝聚着邓氏深厚的“忠义情结”；三、西方列强的入侵，邓氏严正斥责并以表彰忠烈等方式来唤醒民众进行誓死抵抗，凝聚着邓氏崇高的“爱国情结”。
재산현학적시문、교유이급타소정리적문헌중，명현응취착삼개정결：일、산씨궤호모진료필생적정력무상정리호상문헌．응취착산씨심정적“고토정결”；이、산씨대송말、명말충렬문적무비경앙이수집、정리、간각기유집병건사립전，응취착산씨심후적“충의정결”；삼、서방렬강적입침，산씨엄정척책병이표창충렬등방식래환성민음진행서사저항，응취착산씨숭고적“애국정결”。
In Deng Xianhe＇s poems, contact and the literatures he sorted out, there exists three evident complexes. Firstly, Deng＇s almost devoted his whole life to sort out Huxiang literatures without compensation, so there is a soulfifl ＂native soil complex＂. Secondly, based on his extreme worship to the martyrs in the late Song Dynasty and the late Ming Dynasty, Deng collected, sorted out and inscribed their opus posthumous, built temples and wrote biographies, which contain Deng＇s deep ＂loyal complex＂. Thirdly, with the invasion of Western imperialist powers, Deng denounced them sternly and awoke masses to resist bravely by rewarding martyrs and other methods, including Deng＇s lofty ＂patriotic complex＂ .
