Catalytic wet oxidation (CWO) is an efficient method for treating organic wastewater that is highly concentrated, toxic, and difficult to be biodegraded. The technology of catalytic wet oxidation is summarized. Emphases is placed on the introduction of the categories of catalytic wet oxidation, advantages and disadvantages of different catalysts and their research progress in China and abroad, as well as its application to wastewater treatment. It is prospected that the copper-based catalysts combining with rare-earth-type elements are the research direction of the catalysts in the CWO technology. On the basis of keeping high activity of heterogeneous catalyst, it is necessary to reduce the dissolution of active components in order to enhance the stability of the catalyst.
