With the constant construction of the new types of long span, lightweight and flexible structure bridges, the safety and durability of the bridges in operation state have attracted great concern from engineering circle and the real-time structural health monitoring and the near real-time structural safety evaluation of the bridges have also become the hot research subjects in the engineering and academic circles. The contents and components of the monitoring and evaluation systems are presented herewith, the current research of the monitoring and evaluation systems for some major bridges at home and abroad are reviewed, the state-of-the-art, development tendency and prospecting of the monitoring system and evaluation items are described and the research findings of the monitoring system for Wuhan Yangluo Changjiang River Bridge are particularly analyzed.
