Having long been recognized as the primary research area where the politeness and impoliteness phenomena are examined, stud-ies of speech acts including compliment, thanks and apologies provide insights into politeness norms in different speech communities, and seek ro define social variables that conduce to impoliteness in the intercultural contexts. This paper is intended to present a sophisricated il-lumination of how the concepts of impoliteness differentiate between cultures, and further discuss distinct cultural expectations and social values shared by westem and eastem societies.
