New dual-tank heat pump water heater system is described. An experimental setup is developed and its performance is tested. The results show that the new system is feasible in principle. When the heating time is specified, the heated water mass is increased 29% greater than that of conventional constant-temperature heating system and COP is increased 19% higher than the later. When the heated water mass is specified, COP and the heating time of the new system are equivalent to conventional variable-temperature heating system, while the hot water storage performance is better than the later, which confirms that the floating plate with furl-canister in water tanks decreases the irriversible heat loss induced by cold/hot water mixing.
