Comparing to other serial spatial mechanisms, spherical mechanisms, a special type of spatial mechanism, have many advantages which involve compact structure, large work space, less possibility to occur interference between linkages, easy to analyze its kinematic performance, easy to control and etc. Spherical mechanisms will have vast application prospect in medical, aerospace, biological, electrical, mechanical fields and etc. It has been summarized the progresses, achievements, advances and trends in spherical mechanism study in this paper. Based on the above summary, the potential area, research contents and possible approaches of spherical research are discussed as a reference for medcmisum researchers.
