The characteristics of soil and water loss in residue field of small hydropower were summarized. And the residue field was divided into 2 types of stone-based residue field and sand, soil-based residue field according to different composition of spoil and residue. The prediction methods of soil and water loss for 2 types of residue field were studied respectively.
