A series of semi-empirical molecular orbital calculations with CAChe software were used to imitate the inclusion process of β-cyclodextrin derivatives and paeonol. The results showed that hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) performed the best inclusion effect among the tested derivatives. This imitative result was verified by the further experiments. The inclusion conditions were further optimized by orthogonal test. It was verified that paeonol was included by HP-β-CD by UV and IR spectroscopies.
