It reports a study on the design optimization of a two-axis diffractometer installed at a steady neutron source,dedicated to stress measurements.First,the requirements of both angular and spatial resolution are considered and their bearing on the design is discussed.Then,the general formulary for the instrumental broadening and luminosity of a Bragg peak is reviewed.The choice of the angular divergences of collimators and of the monochromator mosaic spread for two different situations.Namely,for the setup at a neutron guide tube and at a beam tube.
