β-arrestins are a family of important signaling adapter proteins and scaffold proteins. β-arrestins function not only as negative regulators of G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling transduction, but also as scaffold proteins that promote other signaling pathways, such as Mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK) activated by GPCR. In addition, β-arrestin interacts with regulators of transcription factors, such as IκB and MDM2, and regulates indirectly transcription of NF-κB and p53.
