二叶亭四迷是日本现实主义文学家,日本近代小说鼻祖,在日本文学史上占据着重要的地位。其对日本近代文学的贡献,一是率先提倡现实主义创作方法,二是倡导采用＂言文一致＂的文体。但其一生自始至终却志不在文学,观其一生政治观及其政治追求,可以看到其寂寞的身影。二叶亭四迷所做的每一件事都没能善始善终,他的每一个愿望也都没能实现。从少年时的军人梦,到想成为国际舞台上的政治家,无一遂愿。造成其一生苦闷、寂寞、不得志的根源,不能不说是其固守政治抱负和过于理想化且矛盾的性格所致。对于二叶亭四迷,我们试着就其性格探究其悲剧的一生。

Er Yeting-simi,a Japanese realistic writer and founder of modern Japanese novels,enjoys a high prestige in Japanese literature.His contributions to the Japanese lie in twofold,one being initiating realistic writings and the other,advocating the style called ＇the consistency between speech and writing＇.But the interest of this lonely figure lay more in his political aspirations than in literature during his life time.We can see his lonely figure in his political outlook and pursuit.Unluckily,nothing he did was complete;none of his wishes was ever realized,including his dream to become a military man when young,and a politician in the international arena.The root cause of his melancholy,loneliness and frustrations can be traced back to his personality： perversely sticking to his political aspirations,too much idealism and full of contradictions.Enough has been elaborated on Er Yeting-simi＇s contributions to literature,so the paper attempts to analyze his tragical life from the perspective of his personality.
