Stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS) has become an effective tool for studying soil carbon turnover and recycle.In this article,the structure of IRMS and the measurement principle of carbon stable isotope ratio (δ~(13)℃) are introduced briefly,and the applications of carbon stable isotope technique in the research of soil organic carbon and soil carbonate are described in detail,including the application of δ~(13)℃ C measurement to the assessment of the decomposition and turnover ratios of soil organic matter,the reproduction of the history of the change of C_3/C_4 vegetation and the ancient climatic conditions,the investigation of the source of soil organic matter,and the differentiation of soil lithogenic carbonate and pedogenic carbonate.
