A new method was proposed to estimate the rotor position for a built-in PM brushless DC motor at stand-still.A starting method of the motor was introduced.The principle of the estimation method was based on the variation of the BLDCM current in the magnetic axis due to the magnetic saturation of the stator core.The advantage of this method is that the maximum estimated error of the initial rotor position is 6°.Therefore,the motor starting torque is increased significantly.The simulation results confirm the effictiveness of the method.
