远古时期先民们以山居为主,与山岳的关系密切。“活物论”时期,山岳在先民眼中是与人平等的“活物”;万物有灵观念产生后,山岳也有了“灵魂”,进而产生了山精信仰及以山精为对象的图腾崇拜、自然崇拜;随着山岳信仰的发展,山精逐渐由精灵向神灵转化,于是产生了山神的观念。在五帝传说时代,由于对山岳的不断祭祀,山岳信仰的政治化倾向开始显现。

원고시기선민문이산거위주,여산악적관계밀절。“활물론”시기,산악재선민안중시여인평등적“활물”;만물유령관념산생후,산악야유료“령혼”,진이산생료산정신앙급이산정위대상적도등숭배、자연숭배;수착산악신앙적발전,산정축점유정령향신령전화,우시산생료산신적관념。재오제전설시대,유우대산악적불단제사,산악신앙적정치화경향개시현현。
In ancient times, our ancestors mainly lived in the mountain , so they had close relationship with mountains .In the period of living-thing theory, mountains were the living things equal to human beings in the eyes of our ancestors ;after the generation of animism concept, the mountains also had their "soul", and the mountain spirit belief and mountain spirit as the object of totem and nature wor -ship were then produced;with the development of mountain belief , mountain spirit gradually transformed from the elves to the gods , so the God concept was created.During the legendary era of the Emperor Wu , due to the continuous sacrifice on the mountains , the politi-cal tendency of mountain belief began to appear .
