Recent research suggests that the emission properties of short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are similar to that of long GRBs in the first 2 s, if the two classes of bursts are intrinsically the same. We mainly present in this paper a K-S test on the distributions of two quantities associated with the spectra and light curves of GRBs. Our analysis shows that the distributions differ for the two classes of GRBs, in agreement with the generally accepted view that they are events arising from different mechanisms.
