通过梳理休谟在《人类理解研究》中得出所谓＂休谟问题＂的论证过程,可以从问题产生源头分析休谟问题本质。真正首提＂休谟的问题＂一说法者实为康德。以下仅论述认识论意义上的＂休谟问题＂,其本质即为彻底的经验论内部蕴含的、无可回避的逻辑结局。休谟问题的本质要么是＂因果问题＂,要么是＂归纳问题＂,两者必有一者更为根本。从休谟得出问题的原始论证过程看,休谟问题本质应为因果问题。由于因果关系是人类得到＂实际的事情＂方面知识的重要依据,休谟试图为因果关系寻找必然性基础。

Through reviewing what Hume himself wrote in the book An Enquiry concerning Human Understanding,the essence of Hume＇s problem can be seen.Actually,Kant was the one who first named the problem as Hume＇s problem.The problem here is only related to the scope of epistemology.Hume＇s problem is a necessary result of the thorough empiricism.The essence of Hume＇s problem is either causal problem or inductive problem,but it cannot be both of them logically.Seeing from the origin of Hume＇s problem,the essence of the problem is a causal problem.Another reason why Hume tried so hard to analyze the idea of cause and effect was that it is very pivotal to the knowledge of ＂Matters of Fact＂ and even the whole building of scientific knowledge.
