In the past 4 years,6 children,3 males and 3 females with age between 14 mths and 9 yrs, were operated upon for the abduction of the hip due to gluteal muscle contracture. Bilateral and unilateral involvement occurred in each 3.All the 9 affected hips showed typical restriction of motion. I.e.inability of flexion in the usual saggital plane. It is only possible in abduction position. On operation, aponeurosis between tensor fascia latae and gluteus maximus was found thickened and resulted in its shortening and fibrosis. Division and partial excision of thickened aponeurosis or the fibrous bands were performed with. excellent results. The authors hold that repeated multiple intramuscular injections in the gluteal region must be the chief causative factor of the condition.
