The paper introduces the desulfurization techniques and processes of two typical FGD techniques applied to thermal power plants (ammonia-ammonium and limestone-gypsum), analyzes the related mechanism and technical characters. With the examples of 1# and 2# unit of Guangxi Tiandong Power Plant, it also compares these techniques' economical efficiency and elaborates their merits and demerits. It concludes that adopting ammonia-ammonium to desulfurize has more advantages over the other method, based on the analysis of the investment of FGD system, the by-products value and resources applications.
