When engaged in a visual task, people often negelect unexpected stimulus that appearing in the visual field. This phenomenon is called inattentional blindness. In this study, we examine the influence of the unexpected stimulus" color and shape on inattentional blindness through regulating and controling the task-relevant and the task-irrelevant dimensions. When the task-relevent dimension was the color of the unexpected stimulus and task-irrelevent dimension was the visual shape (Experiment 1), it is much easier to detect the unexpected stimulus in the condition that the colors among task stimulus and unexpected stimulus are consistent. And when the task-relevent dimension was the shape of the unexpected stimulus and task-irrelevent dimension was the color (Experiment 2), manipulation of the shape and color had no influnence on inattentional blindness. These findings suggested that the color and shape of the unexpected stimulus have influence on inattentional blindness, but compared to the shape, color have a higher perceptual saliency.
