As a literary critic, Walter Benjamin is one of the most original and important critical voices of the twentieth century. His essay "The Task of the Translator" is one of the best-known theoretical texts about translation. In his essay, he brings out a novel perspective in regard to langauge, translation, translator, the relationship between the original and the translation. However, there are some criticism on it, such as paradoxes, diffused style, vague concepts, and abstract ideas etc.. In spite of the criticism, his daring and novel perspectives on language and translation have exerted a great influence on later postmodernists and deconstructionists such as Derrida.
