The experimental and theoretical investigations into the photobleaching process of Poly-3BCMU films are reported.Photobleaching of Poly-3BCMU films was carried out with two different kinds of light sources:an UV lamp and the 488nm light from an Ar laser.The absorption spectra of Poly-3BCMU film before and after bleaching are compared and thereby the chemical mechanism of the bleaching process is brought forward stressing the important role that oxygen took in the process.Mathematical models are established in light of experimental results for low absorptive and high absorptive films respectively.The limits of the models are discussed.Finally,the possibility of patterning guided-wave micro-optic elements by means of photobleaching is discussed briefly.
