The velocity modulating principle of hydraulic coupler and converter was presented. Modulating efficiency, power factor, starting ability, safety in operation and maintenance, operation character were analyzed. As an example of belt conveyor, the power consumption per year and initial investment of hydraulic coupler and converter are compared. The results show that the converter could save more energy than hydraulic coupler and pay back quickly.
