The occurring mechanism of surge failure of rotating blade axial - blow fan was described in details, and the causes of surge of desulfurization booster fan in power plant was analyzed. It concluded that the reason of failure was changing of performance curve of pipeline caused by increasing of back system resistance of the fan made the working point of fan move to area of unstable operation conditions. Countermeasures for improving pipeline resistance of back system were raised.
