通过对城市住宅的外部与内部较为普遍的噪声声源的分析，结合已有的室内、室外声音的传播知识，着眼于实际设计时应该考虑的噪声影响问题及控制的方式方法，不拘于具体的数学公式和实验数据，提供了基本的隔声吸声知识和思考策略．
