本文将自传看作是一系列由各类课程、会议、期刊、网站、评论、书籍等组成的当代体制实践行为.这些行为丰富了自传的阅读与研究方法.作者注意到当前的自传研究致力于囊括尽可能多的社会内涵与形式要素,这种做法似乎有悖于以文本的审美价值为关注中心的研究方法.事实上,当代自传研究还存在一个很有影响的观点,即自传的审美要素具有排他性,甚至还占有主导性.与此同时,自传的审美判断是在上述一系列实践行为中进行的.在很多情况下,研究者们仍然采用“好”或“有力”等宽泛的词语来对某一自传作出评价,似乎并没有一种成熟的语言可以用来表达此类审美价值的直觉判断.本文旨在考查是否存在一种独特的与自传相关的审美价值语言.

The paper looks at "autobiography" as a set of contemporary institutional practices,constituted by courses,conferences,journals,websites,reviews,books and so on.These generate the ways in which autobiographies tend to be read and studied.The author notes that a current preoccupation with achieving an ever-greater social and formal inclusiveness seems to work against any explicit concern to place aesthetically rich texts at the centre of the curriculum.In fact,an influential view within contemporary autobiography studies tends to associate the aesthetic with a project of exclusion and even of domination.At the same time,aesthetic valuations continue to be made within the set of practices being discussed.In many contexts practitioners continue to use "thick" terms of aesthetic value,such as saying that a given autobiography is "good" or "powerful".Yet there seems to be no developed language by which such intuitions of aesthetic value,or disvalue,can be articulated.It is the aim of this project to see whether a distinctive language of aesthetic value can be developed in relation to autobiography.
