The effect of hollow glass microsphere (HGS) on phenolic resins (PRs) were investigated. The addition of 5wt% of HGS into PR led to the increase of hardness and thermal stability. As the particle size of HGS ≥800 meshes, the impact strength of modified PR was higher than pure PR, and as the particle size of HGS kept the same (800 meshes), the hardness and thermal stability of the modified PR increased along with the raise of HGS content, while the impact strengths firstly increased and then decreased, which reached the top at 5wt% of HGS.
