Adipose tissue is an important endocrine organ.Enlarged adipocytes produce excess adipocytokines,which promote the development of insulin resistance and diabetes.Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4)is mainly produced by liver and plays an important role in transportation of vitamin A.Recent studies have shown that RBP4 is a new adipocytokine associated with insulin resistance related diseases,fat distribution,and diabetes.The discovery of RBP4 provides new evidents for illuminating the mechanism of insulin resistance.
