Endocrine glands link with other tissues via nervous system, hormone, cytokines and growth factors. The expression of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) has been found in several endocrine and immune cells within endocrine glands. Close attention has been paid on its research. However, excessive activation of these receptors contributes to several endocrine and metabolic diseases. TLR-2 and TLR-4 deficiency results in impaired adrenal corticosterone stress response in mice under systemic inflammatory response syndrome-like conditions(SlRS). TLR-3 plays a specific role in thyroid pathophysiology. Activation of TLRs signaling pathways is associated with upregulation of certain cytokines and chemokines, it may contribute to tumorigene-sis. The expression of TLRs in normal pancreatic islets makes islets sensitive to viral infection.
