With the development of drilling technology, the drilling rate becomes faster and faster. High-quality, efficient and safe completion of drilling tasks have become a key link in the process of exploration and development. Application of compound log unit in operation can perform an all-round, real-time monitoring of the entire process of drilling. Aiming at the analysis of accident causes, the mechanics of logging accident prediction failure was firstly studied. Through the detailed examples, the unit was proved to have functions in four aspects- engineering accidents discovery and prediction, drilling safety guarantee, drilling effectiveness improvement and horizontal drilling geosteering. These examples provide references for the application of compound log unit in drilling, exploration and development.
