From the aspects of application principle, real-case examples and result effect analysis,the characteristics of sub-bottom profiling detection and seismic imaging exploration are compaired and analized. The advantages and disadvantages and complementarities of those two methods are distinguished through comparing and analyzing the application effects of them on reflection sedimentary sequence classification,sea bedrock mapping,bedrock discontinuity (submerged reef and deep weathered rock trough),and pipeline detection by a actual example.The methods can be considered in solution of different geological problems in different areas, geo-logical conditions and exploration tasks.
